Our Story

Ostrich Nursery was established in 1980 by Ken and Mary Dilts. Ken has always had a strong interest in horticulture ever since working in his stepfather's greenhouses when he was 15 years old.

His stepfather, Albert Arndt, owned Edle Weisse Gardens on Robbinsville-Allentown Road. After years of working alongside with his stepfather, Ken decided he would one day like to own his very own Nursery. Albert and his wife Helen, Ken’s mother, owned land on Pond road in Robbinsville that they sold to Ken and his wife Mary. The land was previously used for farming purposes.

When Ken and Mary both took the land over, lots of family were involved with helping build their dream. Aunts, Uncles, cousins, mothers, and fathers, all helped construct what is now an established nursery business. Some of the tasks they helped with were tiling the fields, planting young seedlings, and watering. The watering was done by family members carrying bucket after bucket from the stream located in the back of the property, to where the seedlings were planted. The family members also helped with the construction of the first greenhouse.

Ostrich Nursery is still a family owned and operated business. Ken’s son, Ken Jr, is now following in the footsteps of his father. He graduated from Delaware Valley University, obtaining a bachelors degree in Ornamental Horticulture and Environmental Design.
